This accreditation demonstrates commitment to the Sleep Program operating at a level of quality, integrity and effectiveness consistent with national regulations and industry best practices.
The BCMH Sleep Lab is here to help individuals return to a normal, productive lifestyle through diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders.
Approximately 35 million Americans suffer from sleep deprivation resulting from either a lack of sleep or not sleeping well. This can lead to a reduced quality of life, fatigue during waking hours, and cognitive impairment.
We are dedicated to helping you get the sleep you need by providing evaluations, testing, diagnosis and treatment of all types of sleep disorders. Our center utilizes a sophisticated control area to monitor brain, heart, muscle, and breathing activity while you sleep.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a serious, potentially life-threatening condition. Early recognition and treatment is important because it may be linked with irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke, and depression.
There are many different kinds of sleep disorders. Our dedicated team of specialists works with you and your doctor to tailor a treatment plan just for you.
Symptoms of a Sleep Disorder
- Daytime Sleepiness
- Lack of concentration and memory
- Lost productivity
- Vehicle or workplace accidents
It's easy to understand how such symptoms can affect your job, your health, and your quality of life. If left untreated, some sleep disorders may increase the risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, or stroke.
What are sleep disorders?
A sleep disorder is any condition that interrupts normal sleep-wake patterns. The BCMH Sleep Lab evaluates and treats most major sleep disorders, including sleep apnea and restless leg/periodic leg movement syndrome. We work closely with you and your primary care provider to evaluate and treat your specific situation.
A referral is needed from your physician. If your physician determines that you need a sleep study you will spend the night in a private, comfortable room at the BCMH Sleep Lab. Our Sleep Study bedroom uses state of the art monitoring equipment. All studies are supervised by a trained sleep technician, scored by a registered polysomnography technologist and interpreted by a board certified sleep physician.
In certain instances, it could be possible to have the sleep study done in your home. This type of sleep study is performed by a home portable monitor and is unattended by a technologist. Your physician will determine, following certain guidelines, if you are a candidate for an in-home study.
If a sleep disorder is diagnosed, it can usually be treated effectively. Our team of specialists will evaluate the results of your overnight study and will make recommendations for treatment.
Our compassionate and professional team looks forward to working with you to help you achieve the quality of life you deserve. If you think you or your significant other has a sleep disorder, or if you have any of the symptoms listed above please contact your physician.
